Skin Tightening

Skin Tightening using Radio frequency or Pulsed Light

To tighten the skin, the use of radio frequency device, or both is considered, as non-surgical. The most common radio frequency devices are Solta's thermage device or Alma's Accent. This common pulsed light devices, are Cutera's Titan or Sciton's ST. Syneron's Velashape which combines radio-frequency and light energy.

As a Skin Tightening Treatment, how does Radio frequency or Pulsed Light work?

Radio frequency (RF) works similar to the way your microwave oven reheats food. RF energy acts on your tissue to induce heat. The goal of radio frequency is to take  control of the heat which would be “just enough” to stimulate “good” tightening of your tissues. Just as there are hot and cool spots in microwave cooking, RF energy can have its affects on tissues which vary from person to person.

Treatments which are pulsed lighted can work in 2 ways: Converting light to heat in your tissue (similar to the sun warming your skin) and also by stimulating and helping repair the cells in your skin.

Compared to other skin tightening treatment, the major difference between them is that the outer layer of the skin known as the epidermis, which is not damaged in anyway, but the radio frequency energy or light energy, which heats the deeper layers of the skin during treatment. The body’s natural wound healing response, that causes certain changes, in the skin (collagen) resultant in the skin tightening. A series of these treatments which are usually performed.

Skin Tightening Technique Non-Surgical

After an assessment is done, the doctor will determine, whether you are good candidate for these treatments. The different systems, which have different criteria to ensure your safety, depending on local custom (and local regulations), treatment may be done either by your doctor or a technician on in the hospital.

The cosmetic surgeon cleans the face, and the area to be treated of make up and skin lotions. Some treatments, does require a thin coat of ultrasound gel during the treatment. Also some pre medication which would be required depending upon device, treatment area, and your individual needs. One or more “passes” may be performed. Treatment may take anywhere from several minutes to one hour to complete.
